Engineering Perspective

Not just an ordinary DC drive, but a system built for years of trouble-free operation.

Unlike legacy DC drives, Mentor MP offers a fully digital, modular architecture that is completely compliant with the latest generation of automation standards.

Retrofit-focused architecture

Retains terminal and mounting layouts for Mentor II migrations, reducing conversion costs and commissioning risks.

Drive Intelligence

Brings automation capabilities into the drive with an on-board PLC, SyPTPro, and modular option structures.

Broad communication ecosystem

Enables easy integration with modern IT/OT networks via EtherCAT, PROFINET, PROFIBUS, Ethernet/IP, and additional feedback modules.

High power configuration

Provides a scalable platform approach for massive current requirements with parallel 6, 12, and 24 pulse topologies.

Engineering Decision Points

Internal Field Control

Includes an 8A internal field controller in Frame 1 devices, and 20A in Frame 2 devices. FXMP25 is required for higher currents.

Parallel Operation Note

Supports 6, 12, and 24 pulse parallel topologies. A 5% de-rating in armature current must be considered during parallel use.

Safety Note

Mentor MP does not have a built-in STO function. Safety architectures must be designed using external contactors and safety relays.

Control modes and core functions

Speed, torque, winder, field weakening, and closed-loop options

Estimated speed (open loop)
Tacho feedback (closed loop)
Encoder feedback (closed loop)
